Marinette County Approves Funds to Support City of Marinette Airboat After Review

Last month, the Marinette County Board of Supervisors approved a contribution of $ 43,900 to the town of Marinette for the purchase of a new 24-foot search and rescue airboat with the caveat that the county can use the hydrofoil. However, at yesterday’s County Board of Directors meeting, a motion was brought forward by Supervisor Allen to reconsider the steps taken by the County Board of Directors to transfer the $ 43,900 to the town of Marinette. for the purchase of the hydrofoil. Given that the town of Marinette recently allocated $ 500 per employee for COVID-19 vaccinations using ARPA funds when they could have used their ARPA funds to fund the airboat instead of asking the county for funding . County administrator John Lefebvre said, “The town of Marinette has received $ 1.1 million in ARPA funding.”

Supervisor Ken Keller said, “There is a reason the city is looking to participate in the purchase of the hydrofoil.”

After a long discussion, the council voted, and it came to 14 in favor of the hydrofoil at 13 not in favor. The hydrofoil’s expected delivery date is mid-January.
